Hey everyone,
And so here we are, already in June… That’s like… The middle of the year! Dear Lord. We really need to find a way to make time slow down. Seriously. This is crazy.
The good news is that, as I suspected, I managed to write more words in May (53,193) than the previous month (28,178).
Those numbers include four short stories, the first few chapters of Book 4 in my Through the Stars, Darkly serial, and random chapters for my espionage series.
I’ve also started work on that “Dragon Dice” trilogy for TreeShaker Books that I’ve mentioned before.
In addition to all that, I’ve been going through my notes for a huge epic fantasy series I’m planning to start writing next year. And when I say huge, I mean huge!
When I first conceived this, it was going to be six books + two standalone novels. But as I was reading through those notes, new ideas came pouring into my head and it quickly expanded to nineteen… and now twenty-five!
Yes, you read that right. Twenty-five novels. Spread across six series and three standalones. The story itself will span 14,000 years of history divided in eight eras.
And there will be short stories set in this world, too. Already wrote four of them, actually, including “The Spheres of Sang”—that 2024 Baen Fantasy Adventure Awards Top 10 finalist I’ve mentioned before. Another one I’ve submitted to this year’s edition, while the other two are awaiting editing.
The worldbuilding I’ve done for this setting is insane. This is some of the most ambitious, intricate, subtle, dark, and twisted stuff I’ve come up with so far. Honestly, I’m still a bit stunned by what I’ve achieved.
I decided back in 2021 that I would self-publish from now on. But considering the scope and complexity of what I now have on my hands, I’ve decided to try going traditional—at least for this project. So my goal now is to write the first novel in the first trilogy, then use it to query agents and hope for the best.
I’m really excited about this one, so this should be fun!
Coming up this month
This month’s story has a bit of a surreal feel to it. It’s one of the four stories I wrote in May.
June 18 — “The God Complex” is about the crew of a spaceship having to deal with a seemingly all-powerful humanoid being who demands that they worship him.
That’s it.
See you next month!
