Another month has vanished into the ether, and I still feel like I’m standing still.
I’ve written 22 chapters of “Through the Stars, Darkly” Book 3… out of 75. I should be done by now, or almost. I’ve been trying to understand why I’m struggling so much with this one when the previous two came so easy. The only explanation I could come up with is that I’ve reached the midpoint of the overall series (I’m aiming for six books) and that things are getting a bit more complicated plot-wise.
See, I normally outline everything I write, but these books have been so easy to write so far that I mostly pantsed through them. I do have some notion of where I’m going and what will happen (generally speaking) in each book, but that’s about it.
Now it seems that for this novel (and likely the next three), I’m gonna need a real outline. So I paused my writing to focus on that. Once I’m done with this, I should be able to quickly complete the book and move on to the next.
In other news, I’ve enrolled in Mark Dawson’s SPF course. Hopefully that will help me work out a better marketing strategy for my books and start making some money. We’ll see how that goes.
Coming up this month
Only one story coming up this month, and it’ll mark the return of everyone’s favorite ‘romanceteer,’ Jean-Jack Laroch.
I’m aiming for an October 18 release date, so you can expect the story to drop in two weeks.
“Write 6 Books in a Year Challenge”
Update #9
If there’s one thing I’ve learned through this challenge, it’s that I should stop predicting what I’ll be able to complete. There’s a huge difference between what I can achieve in theory and what I can achieve in practice. Way too many things can throw a wrench into the simplest plans—and I’ve had quite a few of those unexpected wrenches this year.
I still hope I can complete two more novels by the end of December, though.
Crossing fingers.
And that’s all for now.
Take care, and see you next month!
