Before anything else, I forgot to mention last month that I have (finally) enabled sections.
What does this mean? Well, it means that you can now select what type of content you get from me.
So if you only want my fiction, you can easily opt-out of mails like… well, like this one ;)
The way you do that is real simple.
If you're reading this in your inbox, scroll to the very bottom of the email and click on "Unsubscribe" (don't worry, it won't unsubscribe you right away.)
If you're reading this on the website, click on your profile picture (upper right corner) then on "Manage your subscription."
Both of these actions will take you to the same page, where you'll see a list of all available sections (here called 'Notifications'). All boxes will be checked by default. Uncheck those you don't want, and that's it!
Warning: unchecking all of the boxes will unsubscribe you.
Upcoming stories
So what do I have in store for you this month? Here’s a quick overview of upcoming free stories:
April 13: Salamandra Sun (high fantasy): this is the first in a series of standalone stories featuring orphans Thimmin and Kelle.
April 20: Alice in Wonderland (surreal): a new batch of fake interviews with characters from Lewis Carroll’s classic.
April 27: The Human Dilemma (science-fiction): an Orwellian-like dystopia, with some robots and philosophical themes!
April 30: TBA (science-fantasy): the still untitled novel I wrote in 2020, that I’m currently editing, and that I will start serializing here at the end of the month.
Regarding the novel, I will be posting not one, not two, but three chapters per week (on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.) This is the only way I can still complete the run and publish the whole book before the end of the year as was my goal for 2022.
That said, only the first few chapters (I haven’t decided how many yet) will be available for free. After that, just like with the serial, the book will only be available to my paid subscribers.
New ventures
Speaking of my serial, I’ve decided to post it on Royal Road. This means a slight shift in my strategy, as you will now be able to read the entire series for free. However, paid subscribers will be able to read ahead as Royal Road will be ten chapters behind. This is a popular setup on that website, so I’m hoping it will help me find new readers and new supporters.
I haven’t decided yet whether to do this with the novel as well, we shall see.
I will launch the serial on Royal Road next week. So if you don’t want to miss it, you can already bookmark or follow me there. My profile page is still bare bones, as I just created the account recently, but I’ll be working on that.
Also, I created a… TikTok account! This one is even more bare bones, but I’m doing this thing!
I'm almost done scripting a short story written specifically for TikTok, that will be told over 14 or 15 short videos. Although a standalone story, it will have a connection with my main serial. So if you're curious to hear/see this, you can already follow me on there. I expect to post the first episode very soon (over the weekend, at the latest) with daily postings after that.
Books to read
Here is a selection of books that might be of interest to you. All of these are free to download, though you’ll have to sign up to the authors’ newsletter to grab your copy.
The Impossible Dream by Elton Gahr
People believed freedom was impossible. They thought the same thing about faster-than-light travel.
Don has spent a decade trying to make up for the atrocity his father committed. An atrocity that killed thousands, including Don’s uncle. By sheltering a band of misfits and outcasts on his ship, The Vision, he hopes to make up for what his father has done.
With the most powerful technology ever developed by man within his grasp, Don sees the chance he has been waiting for since he gave up his title and power. A chance for the powerless he watches over to take control.
When making emergency repairs on Mars Don is approached by [… read more …]
Beyond the Hazards Unseen by Anthony W. Eichenlaub
The planet of Sky has everything a scientist might want--and a history nobody expects.
Mistakes were made, so let's just call this a learning experience.
Finn Schmidt was the colony of Edge's best engineer and most safety-conscious resident. He triple checked everything ever built in the Fabricator. He made sure the rules were always followed both inside and outside the small community of scientists. He had a perfect record.
Unfortunately, he also had a friend named Max.
When Max and Finn test a new [… read more …]
